Winnie the Pooh Character Watch in Original Box with Statue c. 1971 Sears Exclusive
Up for sale is a 1971 Winnie the Pooh watch made by U. The watch comes complete in the original box with the Winnie the Pooh statue and the outer cardboard sleeve.
The outside of the box is dated 1965. I believe this date refers to when Disney obtained the rights to Winnie the Pooh and not the actual production date of the watch. The earliest advertisement that I've been able to find for this watch is 1971. They were advertised and marketed to celebrate the opening of Walt Disney World in the Fall of 1971. The watch started running when wound and it kept good time for 18 hours. The watch winds and sets smoothly. The crystal is acrylic and it's in good condition. The band is the original and it's made of leather.The watch measures 24mm across not including the crown and 31mm from the outside of the lug to the outside of the lug. The outer cardboard sleeve is marked Alice in Wonderland. I believe that this was a mix up at the retailer in 1971 and that this sleeve has always been on this box due to someones error. They have been in storage since then.
