This is a beautiful and highly collectible set of rare first edition Winnie the Pooh books. All four books are in excellent condition and would be the ideal investment for any collector. Published by Methuen & Co. This beautiful First edition of the beloved childrens classic by A. Milne is in Near Fine condition.It is tightly bound in the original dark green boards, with gold gilt detailing to the front and spine. There is some very slight bumping to the spine ends and board corners and a couple of small creases in the cloth on the spine. There is also a very small knock to the edge of the back board. Apart from these issues, the binding is in very smart, clean condition. Inside there is an ownership plate affixed to the front free endpaper and the very occasional rub mark to a page edge, but otherwise the book is in excellent condition, the pages clean, bright and blemish-free.
Inserted in the front of the book is a specimen page for Winnie the Pooh, which would have been produced to show an example of the typesetting for the book and to offer a sample of what was to come in the book itself. These are a very rare find and is a lovely item to compliment this beautiful first edition. This beautiful book is enclosed in a fascimile dust jacket, which is in perfect condition amnd compliments the book beautifully. In all, this book is an excellent example of the timeless childrens book, and would be the perfect addition to any first edition book collection.
When We Were Very Young. Published by Methuen & co. This is the second state of the first edition, with xi on the contents page. This lovely book is in Near Fine condition, tightly bound in origianl dark blue boards with gilt detailing.
There is some minor bumping to the corners and ends of the spines, but no other flaws to speak of and the boards remain bright and clean. Inside, there is an ownership bookplate affixed to the front free endpaper, and some pencil markings made by a previous owner. There is some toning to the endpapers, but very little to be seen on the pages themselves. The pages are, in fact, remarkably clean and free from blemishes, with just the odd slightest rub mark visible but otherwise it is an exceptional book. The dut jacket is in Very Good+ condition.
There is a small amount of bumping and chipping to the corners and spine ends, with a small closed tear running on the top back edge of the spine and measuring just 2cm and one at the bottom measuring just under 1cm. There is some minor rubbing to the jacket and sunning to the spine, but it remains in very smart, collectible condition. This is a Fine example of this classic children;s first edition.

The dust jacket is also in Fine condition. There is only the slightest hint of bumping to the edges and very slight rubbing to the panels and spine. The jacket retains much of its original colour and is in excellent, highly collectible condition.
The House at Pooh Corner. This smart first edition is in VEry Good+ condition.
Bound in original salmon pink boards with gold gilt detailing, there is some slight fading to the edges and spine, which also has a small lean to it. There is also some minor bumping to the edges and spine ends and a 3mm mark to the top front edge. Inside, there is some toning to the free endpapers and some very slight age spotting and toning to the pages, but mostly restricted to the page rims, with the pages themselves in clean, bright condition and free from damage. In all, this is a very tidy copy of this beloved first edition. The dust jacket is in Very Good condition.
There is some bumping and chipping to the edges with only some slight loss at the spine ends and board corners. There is some rubbing to the spine and panels and minor water stain and soiling to the rear panel. Other than this, the jacket retains its original colour and is in quite tidy condition. In all, this is an extremely collectible set of Winnie the Pooh First Editions. The jackets are now all protected by plastic and the books stored out of sunlight to ensure they remain such exceptional condition.
Indeed, these books would be an excellent investment for anyone looking for books to add to their collection or for those who have become disenchanted with low-gain savings accounts!
